the eye & the heart
If there’s one thing I've learned as a filmmaker; one thing that defines successful motion picture storytelling - aside from building a strong narrative and aside from capturing evocative imagery - it is FOCUS. And I don’t mean sharpness in the lens. You need that too, but that's not what I’m talking about.
A filmmaker, director, producer or designer needs to have clarity of vision with a means to communicate and the FOCUS required to stick with it until completion.
But here’s the catch - you also have to be flexible within that structure in order to rethink, change and still reach the same objective.
That skill requires strength, discernment and adaptability. That is what I do. I have the creative, technical and people skills to collaborate and guide ideas into a singular feeling or statement conveyed through motion pictures.
Since 1992 I've work as a freelancer is broadcast, news, corporate communications, events, web development, sales, commercial, motion graphics, sports and local and international documentary filmmaking.
"I have had the pleasure of working with Rusty Dyer on numerous productions. He is unique in that he’s both technically and creatively operating at an exceptionally high skill level. Not only can he edit, shoot and design beautiful graphic animations he can also tune into exactly what a clients needs are. Whether short or long form Rusty is able to tell a story from start to finish. He can piece together the perfect script, spot on interviews and artful b-roll all while keeping the project on time and on budget. I can’t recommend Rusty highly enough."

"I've had the privilege to work with filmmaker Rusty Dyer on location in Jaipur, Rajasthan (India), as well as on several shoots here in the United States. What I've appreciated is Rusty's innate ability to bring cultural sensitivity and awareness to the content being filmed, combined with an artistic and technical depth. Documentary filmmaking at its best demands that the filmmaker melts into the culture and story in a way that what is being captured is authentic and without artifice or imposition. Truly successful documentary filmmaking works from inside the subject to portray outwardly the emotions, ideas, and realities of what is being filmed. It's this ability that makes Rusty's work memorable and special, to capture the inner view that reaches outwards to both the eye and the heart."
